Why the payment method matters more than the exchange
Choosing a bank transfer over a credit card typically saves two to four percent of your purchase. That is a bigger difference than exists between most exchanges, and it repeats on every buy. On a AUD 500 purchase made monthly, the gap is real money over a year.
The other half of the equation is the spread. Instant-buy products — the "buy now" button, recurring buys and card checkouts — quote a wider price than the spot order book, and that markup does not appear in a fee schedule.
